Landmark Bio, Syngoi Now to Operate Under Artis BioSolutions Name

Editor’s Take: The rebrand’s purpose is forming a transatlantic pipeline from Artis’ proprietary synthetic DNA production to development and manufacturing.

Two Artis BioSolutions companies—Landmark Bio, of Watertown, Mass., and Syngoi, of Bilbao, Spain—will now operate under Artis’ name. Landmark Bio is a development and good manufacturing practice (GMP) operation; Syngoi is an enzymatic synthetic DNA business.

By making this rebrand, Artis unites its United States and Europe capabilities, creating a sort of “transatlantic” platform. This will connect the company’s proprietary synthetic DNA production directly to advanced therapy development as well as clinical-grade manufacturing.

Artis says the advanced therapy industry traditionally leans on fragmented supply chains, legacy plasmid DNA, and disconnected vendors. In contrast, Artis was built to streamline discovery, development, and production of genetic medicines within a single, integrated platform. In this way, DNA starting material, downstream development, and manufacturing are one system, versus a series of vendor handoffs.

“Advanced therapies are entering a new phase,” Artis BioSolutions CEO Brian Neel said. “The complexity of the science must be matched by equally advanced development and manufacturing platforms. The industry needs solutions built specifically for these therapies, not adapted from legacy systems. Bringing Landmark and Syngoi together under a single brand makes that commitment unmistakable to the partners we serve.”

Peter Stolba, Artis’ Chief Business Officer, expanded upon that theme.

“Bringing Syngoi’s synthetic DNA capabilities together with our development and GMP manufacturing expertise, Artis now offers a uniquely integrated platform,” Stolba said. “This allows customers to streamline development, reduce complexity, and accelerate the path from starting material to commercialization.”

Artis Moving Forward

Outwardly, Artis continues to invest in advanced manufacturing innovation. Through Landmark Bio, the company just brought in an award of up to $18.3 million in April. This came from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), for scalable continuous manufacturing for extracellular vesicle therapies.
